VISIT VENICE IN A DAY
Among the routes offered by Villa Toderini, a visit to the nearby city of Venice is a must, easily reachable by car and train.
BY CAR: from Villa Toderini follow the signs to Conegliano and take the A27 motorway (pay-toll) in the direction of Venice, crossed the bridge “Ponte della Liberta’”, follow the signs to Park Tronchetto.
BY TRAIN: from Villa Toderini drive to Conegliano, park the car near the railway station. During day-time the trains to Venice leave nearly every hour: in 50 minutes you get the distance that separates Venice from Conegliano to the Station of Venezia Santa Lucia (last stop).
Piazza San Marco, the Doge's Palace, the Basilica of San Marco and the Rialto Bridge are the main sights for those visiting Venice for the first time. Our short itinerary starts from the railway station of Saint Lucia, as the majority of visitors arrive here.
In front of the railway station board on the ferries that navigate the Grand Canal to Piazza San Marco; along the way admire magnificent palaces, churches and “Ponte di Rialto”.
In Piazza San Marco visit the Basilica of San Marco and the Doge's Palace; in the latter see the private apartments of the doge and the boardrooms of the Serenissima, and crossing “Ponte dei Sospiri” reach the old prisons.
The Basilica of San Marco, with its magnificent mosaics and the floor, is an unique example of Oriental architecture in Europe. Do take the elevator up the “Campanile”.
Walk under the “Torre dell’Orologio” and along the Mercerie, famous shopping streets of Venice, to “Ponte di Rialto”; to return to the station choose between the ferry back to Santa Lucia or walk along the canals.
